5 common mistakes made by photographers using WordPress

If you are a photographer who relies on word press for showcasing your work, there are chances that you might not using word press to its full potential. No matter how much pro DSLR gear and expertise you have small missing details make a huge impact on the amount of visitors vising your website. To help you out, we have compiled 5 common mistakes made by photographers while using word press right below. Have a look:

Don’t enter image files names that are non-readable.

File names that you add for pictures are really important to optimize your website for search engines. You must not keep a file name which has random numbers and alphabets like 099792.jpg or Image1.jpg. Such names make no sense and it gets impossible for search engine like Google to catch such file names. You must have an image file name that is relevant. It’s best if you use a ranking keyword for it. An image file name should have hyphens instead of spaces so it gets more readable. For instance: Dubai-Mall-Burj-Khalifa.jpg and facial-massage-tips.jpg

Don’t keep the alt and title fields empty.

As mentioned above, it gets really difficult for search engines to catch content from your site if you don’t put relevant titles for images. The alternative text and title attributes are likewise important to fill. Alt text helps search engines to receive an alternative title for your image in case they are unable to catch the main title. It’s more like image title Meta data. Google confirms in 2007 that alt attribute is the primary preference that works for it when it has to get an idea and understanding of the content. So, don’t ignore these fields. You will find them in the image upload section on word press.

Don’t change theme without resizing images.

This is another mistake that photographers do without even realizing what this would do to the outlook of their photography website. If you want to change a theme, make sure the size of images on your site are all synced to the new theme. If not then utilize a plugin to do so. Regenerate Thumbnails is a famous plugin for this task. It will save you hours of work and resize all your images in media settings.

Don’t forget to assign featured images.

Word press allows you to assign featured images to different posts and albums. In case you don’t know how to give your post a thumbnail, you must have no idea about featured image option. To use the featured image button, check the right corner of the post while editing it. You will find a featured image box; make sure to upload the main title image of your post or album there.

Don’t sell your photos on other websites.

What most photographers don’t realize is that selling photos on your own website helps you keep the full percentage of sales. You can sell it for free without any extra charges. Install Sell Media plugin, and sell your photos easily. That will make it convenient for you to keep a track of your blog, portfolio and picture store at one place.
